چکیده

Enantia chlorantha (Dokita Igbo, Awogba, Awopa), depending on the dialect of Yoruba speaking people South west and (Erumeru), Eastern Nigeria. It is widely distributed along coasts West Central Africa common in forest regions belongs to family Annonaceae trade name yellow wood. an ornamental tree which may grow up 30 m high, with dense foliage spreading crown. The plant extracts have been used folk medicine for treatment a large number human ailments especially rural communities stem bark mostly preferred (even though roots leaves also be used), decoctions, tinctures or infusions prepared. In Nigeria, E. preparations can made form drink, called ‘agbo’, powder, referred as ‘agunmu’. Generally, different places cultures, it has found wide applications therapeutic agent treating myriad sickness disease conditions such malaria, aches, wounds, boils, vomiting, fever, chills, sore, hepatitis, worms, intestinal spasms, sexual asthenia, jaundice, urinary tract infections, typhoid leprosy spots, tuberculosis, gastric duodenal ulcers. serves haemostatic agent, uterine stimulant. Its medicinal properties range from preventing curative while pharmacological activities include antimalarial, antimicrobial antibacterial, antioxidant, anti-Helicobacter pylori, anticonvusant, anti-inflammatory, analgesic antipyretic, antiviral, gastro protective enhancing male fertility. Saponins, flavonoids, alkaloids, phenols, reducing sugar cardiac glycosides are some bioactive constituents present support its multiple uses traditional medicine. Palmatine, coloumbamine jatrorrhizine specific active principles isolated alkaloids. aqueous extract not toxic acute intake 500 mg/kg body weight, but doses greater than 500mg/kg weight cause lungs, hepatic kidney disorders following medium long-term use. This review attempts highlight novelty chlorantha: evaluating uses, nutritional, phytochemistry, biochemistry, pharmacology potentials this plant.
